Frequently Asked Questions Image

1. What Is A Cerified Gemologist Appraiser (CGA)?

This title is the most highly regarded in the industry. Earning the CGA title requires advanced training beyond Graduate Gemologist diploma and experience in identifying and determining the value of gemstones and jewelry. CGA titleholders also must pass an annual Recertification Exam to maintain this prestigious title.

2. Should Each Gem Come With A Certificate Of Authenticty?

Generally speaking not every gem has a “certificate of authenticity.” However we at Tanzanite Gemstone are educated and committed to the correct and ethical representation of every Tanzanite gemstone we sell. When you make a purchase, it should only be after careful consideration, comparison shopping, and a receipt of a detailed description of purchase. We at Tanzanite Gemstone will provide you with an independent certification for your Tanzanite by HKD Diamond Labs.

6. How is Tanzanite Graded?

There is as yet no universally accepted method of grading for Tanzanite. Indeed, the world's most recognised laboratories have yet to reach consensus on terms used for grading Tanzanite although the top gradings on most systems will be similar. Below is an example of how tanzanite is graded by HKD Diamond Laboratories in Canada:

This is arguably the most viable grading system because as can be seen in the other examples 'Blue Dominant' and 'Violet Dominant' we see what many refer to as 'QUESTIONABLE GRADING SYSTEMS' (Ian C.C. Campbell). These are utilized in many countries worldwide, and as Ian Campbell argues 'these show parameters that really do not make much sense, other than to glorify a stone to an absurd degree of high quality'.

13. Is it true that Tanzanite will be fully mined out within the next decade and that prices have risen sharply?

Yes. Tanzanite is found in a very small area of Tanzania, and the unique geographical conditions which made the stone, are likely to never occur again. Mining practices whilst now much improved have been less than ideal, and it is increasingly difficult to obtain the top material which we sell in our store. Most research points to the fact the Tanzanite will be fully mined out within the next 10 years or so.

The price of Tanzanite is rising year on year. Between 2002 and 2005 prices tripled, and between 2007 and 2008 have risen over 50%. Indeed, many argue that when Tanzanite is mined out that prices for the top material will be in excess of $10,000 per carat.

14. With so many retailers selling Tanzanite why should I choose you as my supplier?

There are many reasons to choose us over other retailers. Firstly we sell only the top grade Tanzanite which equates to just 1% of all output. In addition we independently certify all of our stones, which gives you that extra peice of mind when investing with us.

More importantly however, we like to view our customers as our friends. We are in the business of making people happy, and we like to try to get to know all of our customers personally. No questions is too trivial, and no order is too small. Everyone is important to us!

We provide free shipping to most areas of the world and offer a full 7 day refund policy should you not be happy with your purchase. If you have any questions or problems we will be here to help.
